Corey and Candice's Wedding |
|
October 17, 2009 by Jim Martin
I had a unique challenge at this Wedding in that the facility did not allow drinks on the dance floor. Figures I had a younger crowd for this one that enjoyed the drinking aspect of the evening! I was able to keep the dance floor moving while at the same time enforcing the rule which was by no surprise not appreciated by some of the guests. Both the event facility and the bride and groom appreciated the extra effort that went into handling this situation. Experience in handling music and people helped me to remain calm and professional when dealing with some of the guests. At one point later in the evening I was forced to handle a situation when one of them did sneak a drink onto the dance floor and proceeded to drop the glass which smashed on the floor in the middle of all the dancing. Unfortunately the music had to be stopped so the floor could safely be cleaned up and after that, everyone followed the rules! The facility praised me for how I handled the evening at the end of the night and said that most of the DJs they have do not cooperate with them like I did (and took a bunch of my cards)... safety of the guests is paramount in these situations, especially with glass and liquid on the dance floor and people dancing with their shoes off. The groom also appreciated the efforts as evidenced by the following e-mail:
Jim,
We appreciate the job you did and how professional you were. I know it was obvious that we all had a great time, and the music was a huge part of that (as well as the beverages). It was unfortunate that the Inn put you in a tough position with the drinks on the dance floor, but I appreciate how you handled it. Also, I know that it prevented any injuries that could have resulted from additional broken glass.
Thanks again Jim, let me know if there's anything I can do to help recommend your services in addition to word of mouth.
Take care,
Corey
